In 1980 Paul Caffyn teamed up with English paddler Nigel Dennis to complete the first kayak circumnavigation of Great Britain. The 2,305 mile route around England, Scotland and Wales took 85 days. Nigel Dennis went on to found Nigel Dennis Kayaks (NDK), one of the most respected expedition kayak builders. The 1980 trip established the template for future UK expedition kayaking and is still cited as a benchmark by paddlers attempting similar circumnavigations of the British Isles today.
