Freya Hoffmeister became the second person ever to circumnavigate Australia by kayak in 2009 - 27 years after Caffyn's pioneering trip. She set out on 18 January 2009 and beat Caffyn's record of 360 days by 28 days, completing the 8,565 mile circuit in 332 days. The expedition included a 350-mile crossing of the Gulf of Carpentaria with 13 nights afloat in the kayak. Averaged 35 miles per day.
In 2007 she set the fastest Iceland circumnavigation record with Greg Stamer - 1,007 miles in 33 days total, 25 paddling days. She is one of the most prominent figures in modern long-distance speed-circumnavigation kayaking.
